Credit Card Fraud Scam

A credit card fraud scam happened in Daventry this week

A lady shopping in Waitrose was scammed this week in Daventry.

Whilst paying by credit card for her shopping unbeknown to this lady her pin number was noted by someone.

After shopping in Waitrose, she returned to her car, putting her shopping in the back she got in the car to drive home only to find a man waving furiously at her.

She got out and he told her there were wires sticking out of her car under the bonnet. She said she would call the AA but he was very insistent that he should take a look for her.

She lifted the bonnet for him and he appeared to plug the wires back in place. He then closed the bonnet and shook her hand. He had a thick Eastern European accent.

At 4pm she went to order a birthday present on-line only to realise her cards were missing.

She went online to her bank account to find that £5,000 had been transferred from one of her accounts into the other which was the card that she used at Waitrose where her pin was noted.

All £5000 was spent in a very short time.

Always report scams and fraud to the police and get an incident number.

Don’t get caught out.

When entering your PIN, use your free hand and your body to shield the number from prying eyes or hidden cameras. If you think someone has seen your PIN or if you want to change it to something more memorable, you can change it at a cash machine (ATM) or by contacting your bank.
